About the course
Writing is a wonderful avenue of self-expression and stress relief! Join us as we explore mindful, inspiring writing prompts centered on embracing one’s emotional truth and creativity. Extensive research shows that expressive writing can boost well-being and positively impact your physical health. Offering a safe and supportive environment via Zoom, no previous writing experience is necessary. The class is limited to 20 participants on a first-come, first serve basis to encourage sharing and connection!
About June
June is excited to be part of the Georgetown Lombardi Arts and Humanities Program! An award-winning writer, community arts catalyst, teacher (all age groups), and cultural leader. She is a passionate advocate for the development of accessible and participatory opportunities for individuals to explore their life journey through art in all its myriad forms. The author of fifteen dramas (as well as stories and poems), her works have been performed at venues throughout the U.S. and published in various books and journals. June’s awards include the Raleigh Medal of Arts, United Arts Council of Raleigh/Wake County Artist Support grant, Silver Medal-Pinter Drama Review Prize, North Carolina Arts Council Literature Fellowship, Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre New Plays winner, Hambidge Center for the Arts Writer-in-Residence, Tennessee Williams Scholar at University of the South Sewanee Writers’ Conference, Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writer (Appalachian State University), and Second Place Winner for the national Judith Royer Award in Playwriting Excellence. A longtime member of the Dramatists Guild of America, past leadership positions include the National Endowment for the Arts Theatre Administration Fellows, Executive Director of the Theatre Association of Pennsylvania, North Carolina Arts Council Theatre Arts Director, Artistic Director of the Women’s Ensemble Theatre (N.Y.), and City of Raleigh Arts Commission Executive Director. In addition to holding college faculty positions over the past four decades and leading community-based writing classes, since 2020 June has been honored to teach creative writing to military members (most recently at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, as well as with The Joel Fund’s Operation Art Program in North Carolina).
